Lights, Camera, Action – Life Recorded

Some of us growing up may have dreamed and even longed for a life in the big pictures.

Hoping for the day that our face may grace the big screen and the screens in homes around the world.

While some of us may have studied the arts – music, theatre, dance, film.

Learning and relearning lines.

Spending our waking hours acting out different parts. Never true to ourselves and always playing the part of someone else.

We would live our day to day lives pretending to be someone else.

Always ready for the lights to roll up on us, or curtains to open.

Thriving on the drama.

Well.

Things have changed.

Time has changed.

The World has changed.

I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of us thrive on our privacy.

Holding back on the intricate fabric of our most personal aspects of our lives.

We yearn for secrecy when it comes to what happens behind closed doors.

There is not longing to be in front of the camera or in full public display.

While we may thrive on the drama of others, seclusion is the place for us.

However, with the introduction of digital cameras, camera phones and the expansion of CCTV.

We’ve all become movie stars of our own rights.

We go to the grocery store, the mall, or basically any store.

Smile – you are on camera!

We walk down the street, cross intersections or play at the park.

Say Cheese!

We drive in our cars down the highway or through city streets.

Lights, Camera, action!

Our world has been forever changed as technology increases and seeps into our day to day life.

While some of us feel like we may not get the attention or credit we deserve for some of our ‘public performances’, this definitely goes both ways.

There are others that are forgetful that their antics are just one quick YouTube video away.

Some of our most embarrassing and ill timed events are now being held ransom by random passers by, our coworkers or even our friends.

The actions that you perform at work or even on your front yard, can quickly become the scrutiny of the world over at the quick click of a button.

Our Men and Women in blue have learned quickly that while upholding the law, their actions and potentially the consequences of them, are very very public knowledge these days.

And while some of us think we are immune to this, we are quickly realizing that no one is immune.

While holding what was thought was a private party while on the job, the actions of some can quickly become local and even global news.

This has cost jobs, relationships, and more.

With a global pandemic in full swing, while there may be less people out and about aimlessly wandering. This does not mean that the wannabe insta-famous and news hounds aren’t out there.

We all have a duty to ourselves, to our families, and to our peers to not only act in accordance to the law, but civilly. Respectfully. And the way we would want our mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers to see.

We need to remind ourselves that if we are out in public, there is a very good chance someone else is watching. We need to ensure our actions aren’t something we won’t regret later.

Imagine that children are watching. And if children are watching, they’re looking up to us and expecting adults to be role models and teachers.

The world can be a heavy and dark place – especially now.

We don’t need to add an extra layer of doom and gloom where it is not needed, or wanted.

If we’re going to be characters on the stage – lets make sure we’re shining our brightest lights, and the most positive of glows.

The world needs more sunshine – so glow.
