Trained and Released to New Heights and Challenges

Its often a fact of life that the company you start out with, isn’t always the company you stick with for life.

We all have jobs to gain experience and knowledge to move ourselves forward on whichever path we’ve chosen for ourselves.

Sometimes it even takes multiple jobs to finally land that dream job.

And while most employers aren’t always too keen on training you for your future when it doesn’t necessarily include them, at Sentinel Security we are all too familiar with this practice.

Through our training programs and variety of details, we are often moulding and shaping our team to excel later in life.

In the Security Industry, and especially at Sentinel, we often have people apply that are looking to get some experience in this field before moving into policing. While we can often work hand in hand with local police forces, gaining knowledge in the security industry can be the perfect stepping stone to a career in policing.

Through training, experience, knowledge, as well as discipline and hardwork, we often lay the groundwork for a good foundation in Policing.

Its no myth that being a Police Officer is incredibly hard work.

It involves long hours, often overtime. Sometimes a large amount of being on your feet and certainly a high amount of physical demand overall. Your people skills need to be above average as you’re constantly dealing with the public in both good, bad, and sometimes scary situations.

You need a good supportive family or team behind you. As Policing can involve many last minute changes, requests, high stress and high risk scenarios, having a team and family that understands all of these things and supports you is vital.

This is just the start.

Getting your feet wet by starting in the security industry will help prepare you for the rigours and demands of Policing.

Security may provide you with an environment that is always evolving – shifting and changing. You can be working a detail where nothing happens, or you can be working a detail where you’re constantly on guard, eyes everywhere and constantly diffusing situations. Hours can be long and there could very well be overtime.

There is definitely a physical aspect. Being able to actively protect although preferably without laying a finger on anyone, having the ability to step up if things go down is a definite attribute. However regardless of that, anyone working long hours and spending long amounts of time on their feet will benefit from maintaining a healthy physical lifestyle. Being active increases your stamina along with all the other generic traits such as increasing muscle and keeping you in better shape. Stamina is a must when it comes to enduring long hours.

Having good communication skills and an ability to work professionally, proactively, and positively with the public is a must.

Combining these skills, with a background and knowledge gained by working directly in the security industry, these will all be helpful skills to apply to your resume into the Policing industry.

While much like any company, its always a sad day when you lose a good team player, we have come to enjoy being a part of the process.

Recently we’ve had people leave for the RCMP, the OPP and also Toronto Police. All valued members of the Sentinel Security family.

These individuals have put in a lot of time and effort into ensuring that our image and reputation were upheld, while gaining valuable knowledge and insight into their future and hopefully dream careers.

The skills and experience learned helped to provide the foundation of their future, and for this we are grateful that we could be a part of something – and someone great.

While they will all be missed, we hope that one day our paths might cross again.
