When Video Games Become Reality

I’m sure its fair to say that many of us have all played a video game at least once or twice in passing.

Video games – or even most games in general, tend to have a similar premise.

There is a start, and an end goal.

In between there are various obstacles, sometimes tricks, maybe the odd pitfall, and the occasional boost.

We’re all our own players – moving ourselves or our pieces around a board.

Sometimes we play on a team, sometimes we align ourselves with other to make strategic moves.

When we encounter obstacles and roadblocks – we can get frustrated and grow tired of trying to move around them. However ultimately – its a game, and the only way to continue is up and over (or around).

If we encounter enemies – typically this is a sign we’re headed in the right direction.

While no one wants to have enemies let alone encounter them, there typically is always one or two along the way.

And if we’ve crossed paths with an enemy, we’re clearly moving closer to our goal otherwise we wouldn’t have someone there standing in the way, trying to stop us or slow us from reaching the finish line.

Life is very much in this way, like a video game.

However its not a board we’re playing on, or a monitor or tv screen.

Its the real world.

The teams we sometimes align ourselves with are our friends and family – helping propel each other and lift each other to reach higher ground and continued purpose.

The roadblocks and obstacles can be any number of things.

From time of day, to location, to health, to politics.

There is often some thing we can find to treat as an obstacle or slow us down.

And most often you might find that the obstacle is yourself.

Lack of motivation, distractions, finding time in the day.

Small little things that can add up quickly.

Our enemies can be bullies or those we’ve left in a past life so to speak.

Pushing back on us either because of jealousy, spite, revenge, or perhaps they themselves can’t even get out of their own way so they don’t realize when they’re in someone else’s.

They come up when we least expect it and often sometimes when we feel like we’re closest to reaching our goals.

If we are encountering road blocks and enemies – it proves we’re headed in the right direction.

If we didn’t have something there to stop us or slow us down, it would imply we don’t have purpose in the first place.

Video Games are escapes from reality while at the same time, mimicking real life in a fantasy realm.

While the rules may be a shadow of the reality in which we live – just like in life, there is a start, goals, and a finish line.

The main underlying difference is we don’t have the option to reboot or start over when things don’t go the way that we may have hoped.

Moving forward in the real world – as hard as it sometimes may be.

Embrace the obstacles and treat each opportunity to meet with an enemy as a chance to rekindle with a past life and know that you are all that much closer to reaching your goals.
